New Zealand – Outfitter #011
This outfitter has been guiding professionally for the last 20 years, including New Zealand, Australia & North America. This outfitter is a member of SCI, FNAWS, NZ Hunting Guides Association, NZ Game Estates Association (founding member), and life member of the International Professional Hunters Association. He has also been Nominated for SCI International Professional Hunter of the Year (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003). He has also guided two previous SCI World Record Red Stags with a rifle and in 2006 the new SCI World Record Red Stag with a bow, along with numerous top ten trophies, including the #1 Fallow Deer (estate) and #1 Tahr (estate). All of this outfitter’s hunts are based on ensuring quality opportunity for the species you desire, comfortable lodge accommodations & meals, experienced guiding, and as time permits, other exciting hunts such as wing-shooting & small game & fishing (freshwater & ocean big game charter).
Tahr – If there is any animal that can be truly awe inspiring in the mountains of New Zealand, it is the Himalayan Tahr. To see a bull Tahr traversing the jagged rock or snow at unbelievable speeds is the sight of a life time. New Zealand is the only place in the world where this magnificent animal can be freely hunted, although there are populations of Tahr in South Africa, New Mexico, California, and Ontario. Tahr inhabit the main mountain ranges of the South Island of New Zealand. Mostly they live at an altitude above 4500 feet and below 7000 feet. While there are plenty of places to find Tahr on public land, research and preparation are a must when planning a trip. A high level of fitness is mandatory, as is the proper equipment to survive in an alpine environment.
The current range of Tahr has been divided into seven management units, plus two exclusion zones. The objective is to eliminate Tahr from the exclusion zones. In contrast, a limit for Tahr numbers has been specified for each managment unit.
Hunts can be upgraded to include additional hunters and non-hunters, up to a total group size of twelve. This outfitter has experienced nearly 100% success with all of their hunters.
If you would like to book this hunt for the coming season, please call our office for dates and availability and we will assist you in applying for the proper units and or the process to hunt with this Outfitter.
